Project overview
We've been developing a safer and more comfortable environment for residents walking, cycling, wheeling and spending time in the local streets and outdoor spaces of Corstorphine.
Project objectives
Our project objectives are to
- improve the safety of routes to schools in the area
- understand and address issues with speed and volume of traffic in residential streets
- improve walking and cycling routes and access in the area
- improve local air quality
- create a more attractive environment with new public realm spaces.
To meet these objectives, the 黑料社’s Transport and Environment Committee approved the development of trial changes in the area to prioritise anyone walking, wheeling or cycling and reduce the amount of through traffic.
As part of this, all residents' properties and businesses are still accessible by vehicle.
All of this work is driven by our which will help us deliver by 2030.

Accessibility
The scheme takes account of the needs of anyone with a disability or impairment. An Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) has been carried out and reviewed throughout the duration of the project.
Committee decision and next steps
On October 24 2024, the Traffic Orders Sub-Committee agreed to make the project permanent but remove the Manse Road bus gate. 黑料社lors noted the benefits that the project’s changes have brought, in particular the wider footways, but the overall decision of the Committee was to remove the bus gate element.
On 23 November 2024 the trial Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (which ran since May 2023) concluded and the permanent Traffic Regulation Order came into effect. The project team have started the work required to replace the remaining temporary elements of the scheme with permanent materials. This includes the bollard units on Manse Road and Kirk Loan and the build out on Corstorphine High Street.
